TAROT TOOLSTAROT MEDITATIONS Meditation is an often over looked benefit of the tarot. The 78 cards of the Tarot are based on a perceived order in nature and in the lives of humankind. Its seemingly simple pictures are in truth a complex system of symbols that speak to the subconscious of us all. Because of the this link to the subconscious the Tarot can be put to good use by anyone even if they have no interest or belief in the occult sciences. The cards are like a book that can tell stories that very not only with each of the cards, there number and the order they lay out in, but with each person reading them as well. A FEW SIMPLE EXERCISES Meditation has gifts for all who seek its treasures. There are hundreds of wonderful books on meditation that will be most helpful in making contact with one's inner self, open your mind etc. seeking them out my may be time well spent. If you do not yet perform any type of meditation I hope you may find the simple techniques below of some of help. I relate them to you only as a starting point and as a specific methodology to the Tarot. First a quite time, in a quite place is a most. If you wish you can play soft music (without human voices of any type is best), at a low volume. Likewise the light levels should be low. This is not just to set a mood; the rates of vibration of light are very high and can be disruptive. Candles and a low room light are ideal in most cases. Burning a little incense is fine as well. Sit at a table and have your deck ready on the table, ideally on a silk or linen scarf. Light the candle(s) and incense and say a short prayer for truth and guidance. With you feet apart, flat on the floor with toes pointing outward slightly, hand and forearms palms facing downward. Breathe in and out deeply, slowly and evenly though the nose as you slowly bring a wave of relaxation up from your feet to your head. Don't rush, let it happen, don't try to make it happen. After you have relaxed your body keep up the same breathing pace till you know its time to relax your breathing as well .in your minds eye see a white light forming above your head when the light becomes strong let it cover you remain in the light till you know its time to handle the cards; again you'll just know. Now move to the exercises below... 1. Separate the 22 cards of the major arcana .Lay them out before you will find yourself drawn to one of the cards, pull in out and set it aside. Do this 3 times and turn over the extra cards and set them aside. Now take each of the picked cards in turn Keep the others turned over for now. Meditate on that card, how dose it make you feel, what parts of the cards are drawing you to deal with them, what meanings dose it have for you at face value then reach deeper. Then do the same with take each of the picked cards in turn. Again don't rush, let it happen, don't try to make it happen. 2. Now turn over all three cards try a putting them together in different orders & shapes. Keep in mind there may be more one way that will have meaning to you. 3. Both the above exercises can be preformed with the full deck and with one to ten or more cards. Picking the cards at random as you would for a reading, but done with the meditation mind set can also be productive. 4. The cards are a useful aid for guided meditations. Pull those cards that you feel best speak to your needs and the issues you wish to come to grips with and lay them out in the order seems best. As you look at the card see the good out come as some that has happen already. Make this vision as real as possible. Keeping a logbook is a very good idea. You can use it to both make notes of all your meditations both open and guided. Be as positive in writing your notes as you are in meditation. Say a prayer of thanks when your meditations are complete. GETTING THE MOST FROM A READING Having someone else read for you can be very illuminating even if you're highly skilled in the use of the Tarot. You rightfully feel you're to close to read your own cards. Whatever the level of your skills it's a good idea to make note of the cards and the order they happened to fall in your logbook. Later when you have time lay out the cards again using your own deck and meditate on them. Write any thoughts or feelings in your log. An unskilled person may easily misjudge the face meanings of the cards and they should keep this in mind, but our inner feelings have value and may shed more light on a good reading then you may think. Indeed if nothing else meditating on a skillful reading may well make finding the best path to take much clearer to us. WRITERS |
